Construction and Validation of Subjective Well-Being for Families

Abstract

The present article aimed at construction and validation of subjective well-being model for the families. The research was done in mix-method way, consisted of qualitative and quantitative phases. The statistical population in qualitative phase consisted of all experts of family and social well-being domain of Tehran city during 2023, however in quantitative phase, it consisted of family sociology professors of Tehran universities during 2024. The sample case of qualitative phase up to theoretical saturation was 15 experts who were selected in snow-sampling way, in quantitative phase also 100 professors were selected in available random way. The qualitative data was collected through a semi-structural questionnaire, the researcher- designated questionnaire was applied for the quantitative data. The validity of questionnaire, in qualitative phase, was estimated through inner validity and the reliability was gained through re-test reliability, however in quantitative phase was validated through content construct validity and the reliability was gained through Cronbach alpha. The qualitative data was analyzed in "content analysis" way, the "exploratory factor analysis" was also applied to analyze the data in quantitative phase. According to the obtained results of the qualitative phase, among 236 initial codes, 70 categorized codes, 14 sub-themes and 4 basic themes were identified for subjective well-being consisted of 1. Individual feeling of merriment and happiness, 2. Collective feeling of merriment and happiness, 3. Individual subjective quality of life, 4. Collective subjective quality of life, and the intended model was designed afterward. Also, the construct validity and recognized item factorization through exploratory factor analysis, were done for quantitative data analysis; the subjective well-being model for the families was validated and approved eventually.
