Abstract

The present study was conducted with the aim of the combined effectiveness of self-compassion and giving meaning to suffering based on Islamic teachings on marital burnout and self-blame of couples with Intellectual Disability children. This research was a semi-experimental type of pre-test-post-test and follow-up with experimental and control groups. The research population was a couple with a Intellectual Disability child in Tehran in 1402. The research sample included 30 couples with intellectually disabled children studying in the 18th district of Tehran who were selected by available sampling method and replaced by random method in two equal groups (15 couples each). The experimental group received 10 sessions of 90 minutes (two sessions per week) integrated intervention of self-compassion and giving meaning to suffering based on Islamic teachings, and the control group was placed on the waiting list for training. The data collection tool included the Marital Depression Questionnaire (CBM) by Paynes (1996) and the Self-Blame Scale (SCS) by Thomson and Zuroff (2004). Data were analyzed by spss24 software and using covariance analysis. The results showed that the integrated training of self-compassion and giving meaning to suffering based on Islamic teachings on marital burnout and self-blame of couples with Intellectual Disability children in the experimental group compared to the control group has significant and stable effectiveness (p<0.05); In other words, the integrated intervention of self-compassion and giving meaning to suffering reduces the dimensions of marital burnout (emotional fatigue, F=06.97, P<0.01; mental fatigue, F=21.72, P<0.01 and physical fatigue, F=63.69, P<0.01) and self-blame (comparative self-blame, F=39.138, P<0.01 and internal self-blame, F=16.159, P<0.01) the couple had a Intellectual Disability child; Therefore, combining self-compassion and giving meaning to suffering based on Islamic teachings is an effective method for improving marital burnout and self-blame of couples with Intellectual Disability children.
