The Effectiveness of Spouses' Communication Skills Training on Reducing Emotional Abuse and Adjusting Marital Expectations: Married Iranian Women

Abstract

The study investigated the effectiveness of spouses’ communication program on reducing emotional abuse and adjusting marital expectations of married women.The research method was quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest design with waiting list group and follow-up period. The target population included married women referred to counseling and psychological services of Mashhad, that Among them, by examining the entry criteria and questionnaire scores, 30 women were selected using available sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and waiting list groups (n=15 for each group). Experimental group participated couple communication program that was 8 sessions 90-minute, whereas control group received no intervention. To collect data, emotional abuse and marital expectations questionnaire were used. Data were analyzed with Analysis of covariance. the results showed that there are significant differences among to experimental group and control group, and couple communication program training resulted in reducing emotional abuse and of adjust marital expectations of married women. So we can say that couple communication program training can reduce the emotional abuse and the adjust marital expectations in married women.
