Abstract

The present research was conducted with the aim of investigating the meaning of success of adolescent boys and girls, focusing on cyberspace models. A qualitative approach and a descriptive phenomenological method were used to conduct the present research. The study population included adolescent boys and girls aged 17-19 in Tehran in 1402-1403. The sample was selected purposefully and theoretical saturation was achieved after conducting a semi-structured interview with 26 adolescents (15 girls and 13 boys). The collected data were analyzed with Colaizzi's method and the findings for male and female adolescents included main themes, sub-themes and primary concepts. The main themes for adolescents included the meaning of success from the point of view of adolescents, the chosen models of adolescents and the attractive features of the model. The results of the present study showed that the meaning of success from the point of view of adolescents is not limited to one field, but these successes are related to each other, which gives meaning to the lives of adolescents. Adolescents enter the Instagram space with a world of meanings of success in their minds and to confirm and challenge the meaning of their success, they choose people as Instagram role models and in different fields of success, they identify with the models in their minds and imitate them.
